  Every year we go to Sea Ranch for a family vacation. Masthead Dunes is the perfect set up for families with kids; no stairs, separate sleeping quarters and a fabulous common area. The home was very clean and well maintained. We plan on returning next summer!

  We had such a lovely time in this home. Beautiful home with the perfect layout for two families (each of the two bedrooms were separated by the common living area). Gorgeous view of the ocean and a very short walk to the beach trails. Hot tub with a view was amazing. We saw deer, bunnies, and a fox. Kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans, appliances, plates, etc. Washrooms did not have shampoo/conditioner. Would be nice if linens and towels were included in the cost of rental instead of having to pay extra per bed. There were plenty of movies and board games to keep us busy although literally could spend hours enjoying the views! All in all had a wonderful time and would definitely come back!

  We had a great time staying at the beautiful masthead dunes. The house accommodated our group of 8 very well. We enjoyed the ocean views, animal sighting, seals at the rookery, and lovely deck. The kitchen was well equipped and beds were comfortable. It’s close to the walking trail for easy access to beaches. Only criticisms are the dishwasher operates very poorly leaving a lot of food debris behind and the TV is very small in size.

  We had such a great stay in this house. It was serene and private and truly comfortable. The kitchen was extremely well-stocked for cooking and the house layout was just right for sharing with another couple.
  The house is set back a ways from the bluff but there are still good blue water views with occasional white water visible depending on the tides. The meadow between the house and the sea is yours alone when you stay here and we saw deer, quail, rabbits, and even a fox one day. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

  The house is newer than average TSR houses. It is located close to a few attractions we love at TSR: tidepool, one eyed jack, walk-on beach. The layout of the house was great for our group, 2 families each occupying a wing with 2 rooms and a bathroom. We stayed a week and it flew by. We did everything we loved to do at TSR: hiking, tidepool, getting rock cod from a fisherman, visiting the library for puzzles and books, swimming, sauna...... great house and great vacation

Excellent floor plan. Each family had a separate suite of bedroom/bath. We prepared all dinners here and kitchen was very well equipped. The deck and grill were much enjoyed. Many deer, fox and hawks were a joy to watch. Easy access to the bluff path which we walked daily. The house was very clean, well maintained. Staff was most helpful.   Every year a group of childhood friends and I gather to reconnect and renew our bonds. We have been coming to Masthead Dunes for any years now. It is the perfect size for our group of 6, we cook all our meals and the kitchen is well equipped and accommodates multiple cooks. We love to gather around the table or in the living area to talk, read, or do arts and crafts. We love the town of Gualala, the Surf is a great market. We participate in a fun run every year when we can and actually have a medalist in the group. We love the accessibility to long strolls on the coast. I'm a fan of real wood fires so the gas fireplAce was less than a thrill, but it's a small complaint in an otherwise perfect stay.

  Our family of 5 enjoyed a 3-day stay at the Masthead Dunes house. The layout of this house is accommodating for families/groups that like to continually interact. The open kitchen, dining room, living room, and hot tub deck facilitate conversation throughout the day. There are 2 bedrooms on opposing sides of the house that allow for some private space.
  
  This is a "no pets" home...and there is wood flooring throughout the house...perfect for those of us who are allergic to animal hair and dander!
  
  This is not a house for young children due to the separation of bedrooms, but great for those who have teenagers and older.

  While this was our first vacation in Sea Ranch it won't be our last! We will always try to book at this specific property in the future. Was amazed by the perfect layout of this four bedroom two bath home. With a large central living space for gathering in the center, the clusters of 2 bedrooms and a shared bath on wings at opposite ends provided for some quieter smaller areas too. Important for us were no stairs (accommodating both my 2 year old granddaughters and 96 year old mother). A nice hot tub on the deck for star gazing (on clear evenings), wall of windows overlooking the meadow and ocean in the distance, and easy walkability to access the bluff trail were all highlights. Comfortable, well appointed furnishings. The home was even nicer in person. Walk in the front door and gasp at wide open views on the opposite wall. Highly recommended. We can't thank our hosts enough and Sea Ranch Escape for making every aspect easy to book, pick up and return keys. We chose linen service and would recommend this to make things easier on the vacationers. Day trips to Guadala, bluff walks, the Jack and Jill playground (walking distance), Del Mar Center for swimming, local beaches (also to Guadalajara State Park Beach 3 miles up the road), Point Arena Lighthouse (about a 25 min drive up the coast). A birthday dinner at Sea Ranch Lodge was lovely, pizza from Upper Crust in Gualala. The Surf Market in Gualala has everything you need to prepare meals at hone. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances (even a coffee bean grinder!), and an extensive supply of kitchenware, cooking utensils. Sit on the back deck to epwatch deer, birds, and rabbits visiting the meadow. Easily a 5 star review.

It was not on the beach but a short walking distance to the beach & trails. The dark mahogany wood floors throughout reminded us of own home! The high ceilings w wood beams were wow factor. The rental agency or owner should update the binder of directions and incident info needed for the renters' pleasure. FYI..the outside spa had no guide but after finding the instructions in the kitchen shelf, can't figure how to increase temp >98°F!! It was a sad day when we had to leave!! This is one of the best in the are!!

  The home was perfect for 2-3 couples and kids. The layout is fantastic with 2 bedrooms on each side of the house. I thought the 2 bathrooms would be tight, but it wasn't so bad. Design was thoughtful with barn doors to block out one side to provide more privacy. We went on daily hikes along the bluff trail and loved being close to harbor seals. We saw deer, gray tailed fox, and amazing birds just sitting in the living room. The kitchen is well stocked and the place is immaculate with expansive views of the ocean.

  This is my perfect meadow house. Elegant architecture provides both privacy and easy sociability. The view is a lovely meadow with a glimpse of waves at high tide, beautifully lit all day. Despite the many windows, it's not a fishbowl because it is far from the bluff trail. It is close to good beaches and marine preserves; you hear the ocean and not the road. You are immersed in Sea Ranch when you stay here.

The house suited our needs for 6 adults and two children although another bathroom would have been always time went by too fast. Next time we would like to stay for a week. Sea Ranch Escape is a great vacation rental company. They addressed our needs without hesitation. FYI - if you intend to use the outdoor grill check to make sure it is clean and the propane tank is full.

  This was our 5th or 6th stay in Masthead Dunes, and we just adore this property. The location, the space, the decor, the kitchen supplies, the breathtaking view... it's everything you could want in a Sea Ranch home, and more. Two pairs of bedrooms with a bathroom for each pair is a great setup for diving up families, or separating kids from adults. There's plenty of space to lounge and read and gaze out over the grass to the ocean. The dining table is large and welcoming, the game drawer is well-stocked for kiddos, and it's truly a slice of heaven. Easy walk to Walk On Beach, and if you're up for a longer walk, also easy to get to Seal and Shell Beach. (and if not, it's a 4 minute drive to Shell.) By far our favorite property at Sea Ranch!

  The home is very modern in build and design, from the wood flooring throughout to the updated appliances. The layout is essentially the large great room with fully stocked kitchen / dining area with two bedrooms on each side. The patio is as shown and has a large usable picnic table and hot tub. The internet/wifi was great and worked well with the smart TV that has all of the current streaming apps and a great surround sound system. There's also an HDMI cable already setup that the kids used for the Nintendo in the morning. Although the DirectTV subscription was very basic, we wouldn't have used it anyway.
  
  There is an ocean view from the patio which is nice, but what's better is viewing the ocean with the waves touching your toes. This property is extremely close to Walk On beach, which is our family's favorite in the area. It's a very short walk with two routes available depending on which side of the beach you want to go to (stairs on the far side), and we did this every single day. It's so short we were able to make quick trips back for anything we forgot, food/drink runs, or for someone to return/arrive on their own schedule.
  
  The check-in/out was very simple and since we travel up HW1 from Bodega, their office is conveniently on the way up instead of having to go to Gualala. The bring-your-own linen option was preferred by our family so no issues there as well as the self-cleaning option.
  
  If the property is available next summer when our family's schedules align, we'll definitely book this location again.

  Masthead Dunes is a lovely home; tastefully and simply decorated and smartly laid out with an up-to-date kitchen and bathrooms. It is aesthetically pleasing but not too fancy, perfectly comfortable for children but not at all shabby. We chose to do our own cleaning and our only complaint is the home did not provide the tools necessary to do all the tasks requested by the property management co. For example, it was requested we mop the entire house; there was a mop but no bucket. There were no rags, sponges or scrub brushes provided for cleaning. We managed anyway and left the home cleaner than we found it but it would have been helpful to have the proper tools.

  We had three generations in the house. It is close to the playground, Walk on Beach, and the Del Mar Swimming pool. It echoes a bit with the sound of kids, no soft surfaces. It is short on counter space and lamps in bedrooms, and one has to be very careful to get shoes off and sand out of clothes before being on the beautiful floor. But these are minor problems. It has a great view, comfortable furniture including beds, and the two pairs of bedrooms on opposite sides of the living rooms afford some chance for privacy.

  Unassuming from the outside, the house is gorgeous inside, with a beautiful -- if a little distant - big view of the water from the living room/kitchen/dining area and from two bedrooms. The design of the house is wonderful and so is the craftsmanship. Lots of natural woods, with beautiful finish work and good taste. Furniture is nice, neutral, and leaves plenty of space for people, movement, and calm. Two nice bathrooms, all four bedrooms spacious, comfortable, well-designed. Beds all comfy. Beach is an easy walk, with great tide pools at low tide, and great views at high tide.
  
  As a side note, my little guy bonked himself and we found the local clinic, 10 minutes away in Gualala, to be very friendly and helpful.

  I have rented Sea Ranch homes from Sea Ranch Escapes dozens of times over the past twenty years and Masthead Reach is one of my top 2-3 homes (although almost ALL Sea Ranch homes are very nice). It's a newer home with excellent appointments. We kept commenting how well the home was built with great architectural features like open beam ceilings and luxury finishes. The home was perfect for 2 families as each family had their own "wing" with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The center of the home was the kitchen, dining and great room area; perfect for gathering and enjoying the views. There was a large deck and hot tub just outside the main area. It really gave you a nice indoor/outdoor feeling. If we had one very minor quibble, it's that the home was set off from the bluff by a couple hundred yards. Many of the homes we've rented were closer to the ocean and you can "hear" the waves crashing. This home, although the views were still very, very nice; we've stayed at homes where you could hear the sounds of the waves hitting the coast....and that's a strong sensation. Overall, it's just a minor quibble and the overall feel, layout,condition and location of the home was still outstanding....highly recommended.

  The house is in a splendid private meadow site, the ground cover encouraging lots of wildlife while still allowing an ocean view. The house is set up to take full advantage of the site. House layout allows maximum privacy for the four bedrooms, and the great room makes family interaction comfortable. It's a good kitchen for a crowd. Location between the pool, One-Eyed Jacks, beaches and tidepools was perfect. One of the best Sea Ranch houses in 20+ years of renting. You should mention the no-shoes policy so people can bring their slippers. My only quibble was that previous renters had put away dirty cooking pots (really, who does that?) I can't fault the cleaning crew for not finding it. A wonderful, flexible, convenient house.

  The only downside here is the view. It’s 90% meadow with a slice of blue water. However the neighborhood fox was a welcome passerby. He did come inside one night whe we forgot to close the sliding door. He was a tidy visitor, not like the raccoons.
  We food shopped at the Gualala Market, better prices than Surf. We loved stopping in at Noma and Four-Eyed Frog bookstore.
  The Sea Ranch Escape staff are first class. We had a maintenance problem with the stove, and the repairman came same day.

  My friends and I where looking to get away from city life. We found this rental while searching for a previous Sea Ranch rental. Our new place chill is just a few hours drive up the coast. Far from the noise and congestion of Oakland. Masthead offers peaceful sleeping, ample space for families, great views and a short walk to the beach. My friends and I enjoyed every minute! Just remember to bring your own food. There are plenty of dishes. There is a washer and dry. You can bring you own bedding and towels. I brought my sleeping bag. There is now way to connect Netflix to the tv but the built in surround sound is perfect. There are tons of games and classic moves. Pictures don't do this place justice. We will be back! Note: Plan your meals prior to coming. Caring extra food back and fourth was a pain!.

  We enjoyed a great stay with multiple family members from almost 2 to 76 years old. The way the house was set up was very conducive to both privacy and good family time. Also, we cooked a big meal and the kitchen was great. Overall, a great place to stay!

  Everthing was perfect (saw whales, long walks, well equipped, etc.) with two small niggles. 1) We arrived after hours and the management company provided sea ranch passes with only two people listed on them - which meant our party of 8 could not all go to the pool together. 2) Also the stove cooktops are underpowered for a gas stove - the oven is great though.

  We stayed at Masthead Dunes with our family for three nights. The house was set up great for families with a couple small children or three couples. The location was great as it was a 5 to 10 minute walk to two different beaches. The view is blue water but you can hear the ocean. The proximity to the beach was great. We will go back again.

  Loved our visit to sea ranch - great family memories made!
  Only complaints - the owner asks guests not to stream on wifi, and not to use too much hot water in quick succession, with "too much" not well defined. Otherwise a great house with a nice kitchen.
