  Lightfoot is an older but comfortable home in a great location on Sea Ranch. The view across the meadow to the cliffs and ocean is fantastic. We
  saw a pod of whales from the upstairs deck and spent most days walking the trails, using the Rec Centers, or just relaxing. Sea Ranch is always fabulous and Lightfoot is a great economical choice.

  We loved the location near Black Point, the Lodge and Moonraker. Disappointed the spa was nonfunctional. I loved the reverse floor plan and general layout of the house. Second bedroom could use a dresser or perhaps shelving in the closet. There are only a couple of shelves in the headboard and two small drawers, one of which is broken. Front welcome mats slips when you step on it and could be a danger. Lastly, when the afternoon sun comes out, the upstairs gets very very warm, even with all the doors and windows open. That said, our stay was epic and we will definitely try for the Lightfoot next time.

    Richard, Thank you for your feedback. We really do read and act on any maintenance issues! We have already taken care of the slippery matt and broken drawer. We were able to purchase some baskets for the closet shelves in master bedroom for your socks and such. The 2nd bedroom is small, and so the 2 drawers on either side of the bed may be all we can do. The upstairs does get warm in the afternoons....I hope you were able to enjoy the bar table on the balcony deck! I imagine a perfect "deck date" complete with wine and cheese.

  Spent a week at the Lightfoot house and were impressed with the views of the ocean and the house being as advertised. The bluff trail was an easy walk, and the Moonraker Rec Center was even closer. The house was clean, and the furnishings were comfortable, with plenty of seating for four The kitchen is well equipped, just look, its probably there, and a trip to one of the grocery stores in Gualala is about a 30 minute roundtrip. It was a little bit of a task toting the groceries up the stairs, as we ended up cooking all our meals, but with the views, well worth the exercise. We will definitely plan a return.

  This is old school Sea Ranch, a cozy no-nonsense spot. Terrific location. As others have noted, it is dated but that's okay -- it's not run down, everything functions. (Though with 5 remotes, the TV was too intimidating to turn on.) The large wood-burning stove is the house's best feature. Also the hot tub, comfy bed, practical arrangement, decently supplied kitchen. We'd stay here again and probably will. Note to management: two house keys is a reasonable request; asking us to hide the key instead is unprofessional and were I the homeowner I would probably be happy to pay for another key to be made.

  We two women went for four nights to this house we loved last year at about the same time. The weather was so grand, we could walk easily to the bluff. I painted en plein air down near the sea, then returned in the eve to a sunset view from the second story. Comfortable living room for viewing as well, but we were able to sit outside on the deck. Lightfoot has a good kitchen with nice accouterments and comfortable beds downstairs. You can hear the sea as you go to sleep and awaken. Very private. We will return again and again.   This home is of the original Sea Ranch style. The view of Black Point from the second floor is superb! The kitchen is small (not much counter space) but well equipped. The shower in the master bathroom is also very small--RV size. Be aware that the interior stairs are steep and have large openings on the sides; potentially unsafe for a small dog or small child. We were glad that we had brought two x-pens to keep our small dog away from the stairs. The house was in good repair and clean. We enjoyed our stay and have already booked a future stay.

  We had a lengthy and very enjoyable stay at the lightfoot home. The home and grounds are well cared for and we have no complaints at all in this regard. Amenities and conveniences such as WiFi and satellite TV worked perfectly during our stay. The views were even better than expected based on the pictures.   Another peaceful visit to Sea Ranch. This house has a lot going for it, that fit the bill for our stay this time: quiet (virtually no road noise), views of ocean and wildlife, and lots of decks to sit on for solitude. Walking distance to beaches and pool. Its definitely a do-over!
  Throw open those upstairs windows and doors, because it gets warm up there. And bring your special baking pans if you like to cook because the kitchen stock is a bit spare. (:

  Beautiful ocean views -- The living room windows frame the ocean beautifully and the downstairs bedrooms have wall to wall windows. The Jacuzzi is just off one bedroom -- just an outdoor extension of the bedroom.
  The deck is just off the living & dining room upstairs with excellent views -- great place for coffee. The house is both cozy and airy and light at the same time. The bluff trail is very close -- either way you go gorgeous views. And the pool & tennis courts a very close walk up the street. We would love to return and stay for a month!

  It was a great place to stay - not pretentious and felt set apart from the rest of the homes because of the large meadow view to the ocean. Very comfortable beds, living room and easy to use kitchen. Having the living room upstairs afforded a beautiful outlook. I was surprised that a small part of our deposit for cleaning was deducted as I thought we left the place spotless. In general, I am disappointed with the extra charges Sea Ranch short term rental properties now demand - I was going there when it was first built and on into the 80s.

  A marvelous week at Sea Ranch. We go every year in August sometimes in December too if we're really lucky. This house was amazing and perfect if you have dogs. Beautiful views, hot tub positioned so you can enjoy the surf. Host left staples which people don't usually leave.
  Most are under lock and key but the Lightfoot had coffee, paper towels, pancake mix some condiments and spices. The kitchen was very well equipped. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

  My wife and I are longtime renters at Sea Ranch. Our stay at the Lightfoot was one of our best experiences yet. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well-stocked and organized. The orientation of the house did not afford the feeling of complete privacy as some other properties in "old" Sea Ranch but that's a minor detail. We definitely will rent Lightfoot again.

  Lovely little house designed by one of the original Sea Ranch architects. It is well situated for view of the ocean and trail going down to the bluff trail. It is wonderful to have hot tub right off of master BR . The little patio upstairs is also a nice feature. It rained for 2 days, but living room was cozy with fire going.

  This was the perfect place for my friend and me. We had an artist's getaway. Great view. Love the meadow in front of the ocean view. Very quiet and private. The kitchen was great and well-equipped. We sat in easy chairs upstairs and watched every sunset. Hot tub was just the right hotness. Even though the house is a bit removed from the ocean cliff, we could still hear the distant crash of waves in our beds downstairs. Great hedgerow nearby to walk down to the sea cliff and then along the cliff to the clubhouse. We loved every minute at Lightfoot.

  We have rented Lightfoot several times due to its proximity to bike trails, hiking, and the "older" Searanch. It is under new management and we were a little concerned. No problems. The management team is polite and welcoming. We got our cleaning deposit back in a timely manner minus a fair cleaning charge. Lightfoot has been updated, but keep in mind it's relatively rustic. It's selling point is that it is well maintained, has a wonderful location, private, and very good for 2 to 4 people. The kitchen was well stocked, the entertainment system, carpet and kitchen were modestly updated a few years ago. Wi Fi has been reliable and ATT cell service has been good. The only possible gripe is that the vertical blinds in the master bedroom really need to be changed out or updated. Other than that, we will most likely continue to use Lightfoot as our lei at retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

  This was our second stay in this house. We (a couple) need a house that's dog friendly, and we really like the location, the unobstructed view of the coast, and the nice open upper level (the bedrooms are on first floor). The kitchen and baths need updating, but we're fine with the house as it is since more upscale homes are more expensive. The furnishings and beds are very nice and very comfortable, and the new berber carpeting is a tasteful choice. The hot tub is relaxing.
  
  There are just a few minor issues. We couldn’t find directions for the hot tub (e.g., location of switches for the jets), the wood stove (how does the flue work?), trash (when picked up? is there recycling?), or the 4 remote controls for TV, DVD, cable etc. There are no hooks by the front door (or anywhere else) for jackets, leash, keys etc. A couple of the stove burners are not level, but I solved that problem by bringing my cast iron fry pan!

  This is the first time that we stayed at the south end of Sea Ranch. The sweeping ocean views were fantastic! Qualala was about 10 miles away so try to only do it once. The 10 miles takes 30 minutes each way. This home had a reverse floor plan with the bedrooms downstairs and the living room and kitchen and dining rooms upstairs. This house has huge windows so you have great views. It can get warm in the heat of the summer in the front sitting room but it cools in the evenings. The front windows had no shades. The 2 queen beds were comfortable. The house needs a deep cleaning but it was surface cleaned.

  The cathedral windows on the back and front of the house make for dramatic and lovely views of the colors and seasons of Sea Ranch. I worried about the older kitchen and ended up loving the space!
  The beds are so comfortable, I went home and bought a new mattress.
  And the view from my pillow...moor and ocean, combined with the sounds of the waves, a place I mentally revisit on a stressful day.
  A few notes to bring along: they have a drip coffee maker so bring ground coffee. Also the air circulation inside the house on warm days isn’t ideal so a fan to help pull the cool air through is helpful.
  The house is beloved by long time renters and I can see why. The windows and even the entry frame the views the way the founders of the Sea Ranch envisioned it. This house may appear bare bones house yet the luxury is the way it’s aesthetically positioned, the comfortable furniture, and the easy access to the outdoors. With the bluff trail just steps away, my pup and I made it to the beach eight or nine times in a three night stay.

  I’m so delighted to have stayed at Lightfoot. It’s got an amazing view of Blackpoint, easy access to trails and a historical background. The property is dated and may need updating in the future. Everything we needed was there. It is clean and property management’s cleaning protocol during the pandemic is strictly implemented. They also assisted us with construction noise in the neighborhood. Very prompt response that we greatly appreciated.

  Lightfoot was a nice, simple house - almost more like a very nice cabin. If you are looking for luxury, this was not it! But it suited us fine - had a great entertainment system, a hot tub overlooking the ocean, and the best part was the location. You have an unobstructed view to the ocean through the gorgeous meadow (we saw a lot of whale activity from our living room!) and you could easily walk to the bluff trail, the Sea Ranch Lodge, and a beach that at low tide might be accessible but at high tide wasn't.
  
  Plenty of pots and dishes and condiments which was nice for cooking.
  
  Strangely you have to either bring or pay for towels and linens (and make your own bed), and clean it yourself or arrange for a cleaner and pay extra.
  
  So the reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars overall was the price - kind of expensive for the type of house it was, but as I said, it suited us fine!

  The only negative aspect of the home was there were no blinds on most of the upstairs windows. The 2 sliding glass doors (kitchen and off dining area) and the rectangular window in the dining area are faced directly in the horizon of the sun from morning to late afternoon. The sunlight was VERY uncomfortably bright and made the upstairs too warm.

  We loved the location and the views, and indeed we plan to rent this house again for those reasons. The bathrooms and kitchen need some updating; the electric stove needs repair or replacing (for example, the burners are crooked), and the heater larger bathroom makes a racket. The hot tub wasn't working well for us (first too cold, then too hot), and we tried our very best to guess how to adjust it, but there was no manual to guide us. Still we liked the house and plan to return!
