The three of us thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay. The house is roomy and full of light. We liked having the enclosed courtyard. An umbrella on the ocean side patio would have been appreciated as it was so sunny. We didn’t use upstairs loft. It is pretty warm and we didn’t need the space. The house is near Guadalajara which is convenient. Also very close to trail on the beach.

We had a lovely time at Abalone Cove. The house had everything we needed for the perfect stay. The enclosed courtyard was terrific for our dog and for hot tubbing! We enjoyed views of the ocean from the living room and deck and especially liked the location of the house. Super close to Shell Beach, Walk On Beach and a short drive to Gualala. And the staff at Sea Ranch Escapes is always super helpful!

There are many nice things about this rental: the location is a quick walk to the bluff, and the trail then splits either direction to nearby stairs to the beach.

The house itself is well lit, both by ample windows and skylights, but also with soft interior lighting. The master bedroom is very large and open. There is a lovely courtyard perfect for letting your pet out for a break. The property was clean and in good condition.

There was just one problem which was an unpleasant odor near the cooktop. The agency was quick to send out a plumber who confirmed it was not gas but just the air under the house coming up through the cooktop fan when it wasn't running. I covered it in foil while we were there to minimize the smell.

Abalone Cove was perfectly located for rambling and taking in the beauty of Sea Ranch, just a short walk to the bluff trail, Walk On Beach, Shell Beach and the Harbor Seal Rookery. The house was very private with an enclosed, flower filled courtyard and wonderful views of the meadow, wildlife and some blue ocean.

The layout of the house was delightfully open and airy with a minimal, modern decor. The large master bedroom included a comfy king bed, window seat and large closet. Although a bit dated, we found the kitchen well furnished with utensils.

Overall, the house was well suited to stargazing off the back porch, making use of the hot tub, relaxing and enjoying the serenity of the natural setting. A large selection of books and games were available to choose from.

The condition of the property was generally very good and clean. One disappointment was that the large window in the master bedroom was obscured by condensation. Otherwise, the plentiful windows afforded great viewing of the courtyard and meadow.

We joked that the house should be renamed Quail Cove because one of our daily joys was observing a quail family in the backyard. This home is very comfortable for two adult couples because the private areas are separated by the kitchen and great room. Just be aware that the wall to the master suite does not go all the way to the ceiling so sound travels from that suite to the common areas and vice versa. So just don't put the folks who sleep late in the master suite.

Spent Labor Day weekend at Abalone Cove. House is well kept and excellent for two couples. Their is a loft-like room that could potentially sleep others. Near Walk-on-beach, which is in my opinion the nicest beach at Sea Ranch. Service and condition of the house were excellent and enhanced the usual soothing Sea Ranch experience.

Kara at Sea Ranch Escape was professional and timely when addressing concerns. Abalone Cove has the perfect location to walk the dogs on walk on beach while enjoying a cup of coffee to start your day. The tide pools are a 2 minute walk from the house and the harbor seal sanctuary at shell beach is 5-10 minutes. The monarch butterfly trail through the cypress hedgerow is minutes from the house. Abalone Cove has a warm and wind free court yard to allow the dog to feel at home. The up stairs loft is perfect for young kid(s) to sleep and get away from the adults.

We absolutely love Abalone Cove! We were there for a 3 night stay that is about the time the harbor seals were at the beach. The location is perfect with easy access to the coast. The house is beautifully maintained, clean and has an open floor plan that has a wonderful sense of space but offers privacy where needed. I found myself losing myself in the westward view to the ocean many times. The enclosed entry courtyard is one of our favorite spaces that is tranquil, secure and blends the indoor with outdoor environment. The owner has furnished the house with tasteful modern furnishings of clean lines and comfort throughout and all the conveniences we needed. Wifi and TV was reliable service. The people at Sea Ranch Escape are outstanding too! If there is any complaint it's that our vacation there was too short. We will most definitely like to come back.

Twenty years. This was one of the best. And Searanch Escapes
Is the best rental agency. Too bad they aren't in the lodge any more. The lodge is still nice, but not as magnetic. Love the walks on the bluff. My wife loves getting her laps at the Del Mar pool.

This is our third time back. We love Abalone Cove for its open airiness of the floor plan, privacy of the enclosed entry court and it perfect balance of coastal access but away from foot traffic. We love the modern style of the furnishings. Everything is well maintained and all the conveniences you need to decompress. Head over to the bakery next to the Gualala Supermarket. Get some ginormous cinnamon rolls and enjoy them in the morning with a steaming cup of dark roast at the deck overlooking the meadow and the Pacific beyond. One of those "doesn't get any better" moments! We hope to be back again.

This was the 13th house we have rented in Sea Ranch and by far one of our favorites. It was centrally located between Gualala and Two Fish and had an east stroll to the bluff trail and numerous beaches. Great view from the deck and master bedroom and a wonderful private enclosed garden perfect for hot tub, dog, and our two year old. We would definitely rent this one again!

Very nice house — good kitchen and bathrooms, great courtyard for dogs, comfortable and attractive furnishings, near the Bluff Trail. There was one feature I really did not like: The wall between the master bedroom and the living room/kitchen area is a partial wall; it does not go all the way to the ceiling. If you look carefully at the photos, you can see that — but I’ve never encountered this feature in a vacation rental house (other than loft rooms, and that’s always clearly stated) and didn’t think this was something to watch out for. I’d rent the house again by myself, but not to share with a friend who keeps different sleeping hours than I do. She was in the master bedroom. If I turned on the lights in the kitchen while she was in her bedroom, she got light in her bedroom — and could hear me moving around. I’d give the house a “5” if the master bedroom had a normal wall and normal privacy. Would I recommend the house to a friend: Yes, if they are okay with what I’ve just described. Otherwise, no.

We loved the location and view from Abalone Cove. The house was a great place for our dog with the enclosed courtyard and proximity to the Sea Ranch Dog Park. However, the house could use some repairs and updating. Several of the windows have broken seals and the master bedroom window view of the ocean is obscured. The front deck would be a great place to have your meals during nice weather which we had for most of our stay. However there is no patio dining table on the deck. The front deck is in full sun from morning until 5 or 6 pm and there is no umbrella. Some of the window shades do not function properly and one that shades the living room area from the sun apparently broke from the bottom and is just cut with scissors it appears a few inches down from the top. There is also a broken window in the courtyard near the entryway. Also be aware that the master bath has a huge soaking tub with a hand held shower fixture in it. We used the guest bathroom shower during our stay since it wasn't easy for us to climb in and out of the soaking tub to take a shower. The master bed was very comfortable and we slept well and the closet in the master is very large. We had no issues with the housekeeping as the house was very clean. And the Sea Ranch Escape staff was very helpful and efficient. This home has a lot of deferred maintenance issues which fall to the property owner. For the price we paid it was fine but not sure we would rent it again.

Comfortable home w/nice layout although TV did not provide local stations or a broad range of viewing options. They needed a good, basic cable service, especially in view of expensive rental rates. Hot tub clearly not checked before our arrival as water level low. Kitchen cookware needs replacing. Dishwasher not installed properly. Burned out light bulbs need replacing.

We love the Abalone Cove house, but to make it better:
1. The enclosed courtyard needs a refresh. When wet and rain comes all the dirt is a huge mess, and all is tracked in the house. At the minimum a thick layer of mulch.
2. The cookware (especially the pots/pans) needs to be gone through, throwing much of it out at very tired and worn. Too much quantity, not enough quality. Pots and pans are not very expensive to replace.

I will list what my concerns about Abalone Cove:
1.The afternoon we arrived I removed the garbage can from under the sink and saw mouse dropping all over and on the extra paper towels. There were droppings on the counter too. Maintence person came the Next Day, set trap and we caught 3 mice in 2 days. Nothing was done to find how the mice were getting in. The paper towels were not Thrown away but pushed to the side.
2.The windy railing going upstairs paint peeled off. This needs to be sanded and painted.
3. Lastly the windows - Every outside window was filthy with dirt, grim and spider webs on the screens.You could not see the beautiful ocean view clearly while in the kitchen, bedrooms and front room. They look like they have not been cleaned for awhile.
4.Need to purchase cushions for the iron chairs on the back deck. The iron chairs are very unfordable to sit and relax.
There is a windy staircase to a nice loft- little kids up and down.
The master bedroom has opend walls so you hear everything. This home is good for 2 couples or older children.
Otherwise the house is in a great location to walk to many beaches, playground, and hiking. Loved the gas stove and BBQ worked great.

Very nice house. Comfortable. Garden is beautiful and hot tub was wonderful. Master bath is difficult with no formal shower. Could have a few more basic spices for kitchen and maybe a crockpot. We would stay here again. The deck is nice and furnishings quite modern.

Loved the location. The only thing that was "odd" is the fact that master bedroom and master bath walls are open at the top. Thus no peace and quiet or privacy. This was not mentioned in the description.
The master bath has no shower. Tub very hard to get in. Kids loved the loft. Nice view.

A lovely home that could use some attention and updates. For example, there were only 3 coffee cups for a house that sleeps 6, the hot tub very difficult to regulate, and the carpet stained. That said, it was a lovely property that provides the desired Sea Ranch experience of peace and natural beauty.
