Our first stay in this wonderful house. One of the first houses build at Sea Ranch and one of very few structures with original green roof remaining. Location near Lodge and just a couple of hundred feet from the edge of the drop to the ocean is hard to beat. Well appointed house and extremely comfortable. We will return.

As one of the first six detached houses built at Sea Ranch, it is perfectly situated on the bluff above the long, stairway-accessible Black Point Beach and in walkable proximity to The Sea Tanch Lodge and Moonraker Rev. Center. It is very comfortable with ample amenities to make for a relaxing and memorable stay (e.g. - fully-equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace and wood, ample beds, outdoor patio with hot tub & BBQ, and wooden chairs on the back lawn overlooking the ocean for whale and sunset watching)!

Great House, great location. Easy access to the lodge which is now open. Only quirk was that the new counters required extra special care and made cooking extremely challenging (Thanksgiving dinner had to happen elsewhere--would have been impossible trying to coddle unsealed countertops). Would definitely try to stay at this location again!

Staying at an Esherick designed home was an added bonus. The property is well maintained and affords great vistas along with privacy. The enclosed courtyard was much larger than pictures suggest. The master suite and updated bath were very comfortable. Bluff trail from this location are easy to navigate. Beach access so close!

This is the second time we've stayed in a Sea Ranch Escape home. It was again incredibly. The house had all of the conveniences of home and was incredibly comfortable. It's right above a tremendous beach which feels like your very own. The fact that our furry friends were able to be with us made it even better. I spent an entire day watching the whales from the point right outside our house. This is the place I most want to be for all of my vacations. Remarkable. The Sea Ranch Escape staff was great to work with since I had to change our reservation 3 times. Very easy to work with.

We have been to Sea Ranch many times now, and De Young is definitely the best house there. The location is unbeatable. Great barrel hot tub! Kitchen has extensive equipment. I've had the luck of staying here a couple of times now. Just one little thing - I miss the wood dining table.

Wonderful stay at this architecturally significant home, well maintained and beautifully located near the lodge and right on the bluff trail with the sound of the surf all day long. Only downside is closeness of the bluff trail with visitors walking past during high tourist season, but not a big deal for us. Overall a wonderful house.

We've stayed in DeYoung in the past. We were VERY disappointed in the new "IKEA" type dining room table and chairs. The chairs were very cold and hard. Doing a jigsaw puzzle at one end of the table was difficult because of the glare. Otherwise, we had a fabulous time in DeYoung with one of best hot tubs in Sea Ranch. Bring back the original table and chairs.

Or stay was delightful! We enjoyed the location of the home (we could walk down to the beach), the views and the surroundings. Lovely gardens in the courtyard. The only downside was that the home smelled a bit musty. This was helped by opening up windows to bring on the breeze. Also, the bunk room was wonderful for our children, but the comforters a bit dusty. This was fixed by laundering them (laundry in the house). Overall we loved it and would return again!

We had a wonderful stay at the Deyoung House in beautiful Sea Ranch. We only had a weekend which wasn't long enough to explore the area very much. Even a shot getaway was better than no getaway. The home was beautifully appointed close to Black Point Beach. It was set up with every amenity anyone would need. Sea Ranch Escapes handled the accommodations seamlessly and made it easy and clear during the reservation , check in and check out process. I want to go back and stay for at least a week. Absolutely loved the Deyoung House, Sea Ranch Escape, and Sea Ranch!

We love staying at the De Young house. The house has great amenities, such as a high quality hot tub, enclosed courtyard, well equipped kitchen, great views and great proximity to the beach and lodge.

The only very small suggestions I have is that the it will soon be time to replace the springy bed in the master bedroom and to upgrade the internet connection to allow guests to stream movies.

The De Young house is outstanding! The beautiful design, comfortable furnishings, and amazing location made it the best house we've ever rented at Sea Ranch. We had a small group (4 adults) but the house can easily accommodate more. The amenities were just as described in the listing, and the homeowners have helpful hints everywhere so we felt right at home.

Mostly we just enjoyed staying at the house and hiking the trails around Sea Ranch, but we took several day trips in the area, too. Kayaking on the Gualala River (AdventureRents), exploring the lighthouse at Point Arena, and BBQ at Bones Roadhouse were highlights of our stay. We'll definitely be back.

Hi. The freezer door opened during both nights and leaked water onto the kitchen floor. The fridge temperature never was too cold even with adjustments to the settings. Two lights in the livingroom didn't work (the top portions). Don't know if it was a circuit issue. Loved the master bath renovation. We continue to make this an annual event.

We loved hiking for miles on the bluff trail, made use of much of the biking trails. We rented this house because my husband is an architect and big fan of Esherick's work. The exterior of the house maintains Esherick's original design intent however the interior was redone at some point without any apparent knowledge or sensitivity. The upstairs addition is very nice but the kitchen (done at some previous time, I assume) has no character and it is unfortunate that the original stained concrete floors have been tiled in places. Still, we loved staying there! Very cool 40 yr old living roof! and beautiful views throughout, of course.

This is truly a dream location with a house that has taken advantage of
every view. Loved just staring out at the ocean, then taking a few steps outside to run along the amazing well maintained trail that follows the shoreline. House is perfect for 2 couples, with 2 bedrooms having adjoining bathrooms. There is a 3rd bedroom and bathroom, with bunk beds. You'll have to toss for the master bedroom which is upstairs and much nicer than the downstairs queen bedroom, but, in the end, the main rooms of the house are all fabulous with large windows and phenomenal views.

The De Young, a beautiful home on a scenic ocean view bluff, offers plenty of room to stretch out and relax. We enjoyed the close proximity to the ocean front trail and amazing views! There are many spaces in the house for private relaxation: a TV game room, computer nook, a child loft, as well as a sizable fenced yard and hot tub. Our dogs loved the back yard, but a word of warning : there are more than a dozen foxglove plants which are highly toxic to pets and children.Since we were the first occupants since the pandemic shutdown, we encountered a few maintenance problems. The hot water heater wasn't functioning so we had no hot showers in the bedroom section for 24 hours. The office staff did send out a plumber who fixed the problem the next day. Also, a fuse went out in the hallway and stairway, so we had to use a flashlight the first night. This was also remedied the next day by a handyman. Besides these few initial hiccups, everything went smoothly. We would recommend this home to family and friends. We also enjoyed Uptown pizza in Gualala and the Thai restaurant in Anchor Bay for dining.

We had a fabulous time at the De Young House in Sea Ranch! Enjoyed the prime location near Black Point Beach access. We golfed two days at Sea Ranch course which was in excellent condition. Hot tub at the house was very clean. Only inconvenience was that the countertops had just been redone and had not fully cured, so we couldn't put things on the kitchen countertops.

The house sits in a superb location -- the panoramic views from the living room, dining room, and master bedroom are fantastic. We watched whales from the sofa, with the luxury of so many whales so close to the beach that we turned back to the good selection of books provided. It is easy to get onto Blackpoint Beach below.
The master bedroom and bath are luxurious and the house is nicely updated, with great kitchen accessories.
Two areas need improvement. The bunk bed room is cute with a charming loft area. As a third bedroom, however, it is inadequate; the beds are very uncomfortable and one senior in our party had to resort to an inflateable mattress on the floor.
Second, the kitchen needed a good cleaning. Without much effort I was able to turn the sink area from brownish to acceptable.
I would recommend the house as a two bedroom house with room for young children.

We have stayed at Sea Ranch 1-2 weeks a year for over 15 years and are never disappointed with our stay. The only issue that we encountered this stay was that there was construction going on next door on the left and also two doors down on the right and we were not informed of this before we arrived. We were unpleasantly disturbed by construction noise on several occasions. This is not a reflection on the home or its owners but the rental company could have let us know. Otherwise, great stay.

Even though we were notified by the rental company that PG&E would have the power turned off between 8-9 am on the morning of our departure,good old PG&E still hadn't turned off the power by the time we left. We survived easily without showers and the beautiful home outdoor beach experiences, views, the seals riding the waves and the fabulous dinner at St. Orees made our combined 90th anniversaries a very memorable experience.
