Our first evening, a pod of whales was passing by and we were able to see them from the living room and deck. Very tasteful yet cozy and comfortable furnishings. The kitchen is fully supplied with any small appliance you may need. Don't miss the chance to stay here!

We sought peace and tranquility and discovered it at Sea Ranch and Moon Shadow. The location is serene, offering stunning views of the white and blue waters. The house was equipped with all the necessities one could possibly require. The beds and furniture were comfortable. Numerous windows provided ample natural light throughout the house. There is a charming private garden. A large, clean saltwater hot tub is available. The staff at Escape were exceptionally pleasant and professional. We plan to return to Moon Shadow and would certainly recommend this property to friends and family.

Our stay at Moons Shadow, Sea Ranch,Ca, over the the 4th of July 2024 was entrancing. Although the stay was much too short, I enjoyed the vibe with the congenial, marvelous, glorious relaxing feel the spiral staircase was a surprise, but very manageable. We felt right at home with the decor and lovely paintings. I certainly will return. Moon Shadow is magical.

Another wonderful visit to Moon Shadow. Our stay was wonderful, restful, a break from work! Weather is good (interesting) in early spring, windy at times, but beautiful walks on the bluff. The unit is always in good shape, close to recreation and shopping, and beautiful views from each of the two floors. Take a look at indoor pictures and the spiral staircase. In summer, upstairs is warm and downstairs is very comfortable. Sea Ranch Escapes staff are always helpful.

We enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing week at Moon Shadow. Kara was helpful in making sure we had the information we needed and was a pleasure to work with.
The house was charming, relaxing, and had what we needed in every regard. Descriptions were accurate in the listing and it lives larger than the photos convey. Everything is thoughtfully set up for ease of use. We cooked simple meals for two and appreciated the supplies and spices available at the house. The hot tub was ready to go when we arrived and we enjoyed star gazing from the spa nearly every night. The woodburning stove was perfect for our one cold and stormy night- wood and kindling were provided.
The house location was excellent with white water views and easy access to the headland trails, which we used daily. We hiked to the lodge for lunch and lattes one day and enjoyed ambling back while watching whales migrate up the coast. (Bring your binoculars!)
A day trip to Port Arena was excellent- check out Franny's Cup & Saucer for delicious pastries and enjoy a tour of the Pt Arena Lighthouse down the road. We also had a fantastic meal at Anchor Bay Thai Kitchen! The Village Cobblery saved the day when my husband's hiking shoes broke down- the owner was helpful in getting him set up and back out on the trails and treated us like family while we were in the shop.
We also enjoyed hiking some forest trails and found the guide to sag pond loop fascinating. The binder at the house is full of useful information for exploring near and farther afield.
We returned home both invigorated and restored and looking forward to our next visit.

After many years of Thanksgivings in Sea Ranch (or nearby) we have found the perfect place for the 4-day weekend! We have already reserved the house for next year. The living area is upstairs. Being up high we had a great view out across the meadow to see the ocean waves rise up. There is a major walk way just near the house for walks along the bluff. The kitchen was convenient and very well stocked. The beds were comfortable. My son enjoyed the hot tub. Our dog adjusted to the house and was happy. One day we enjoyed a ride north along the coast to Elk.

Overall, our experience was quite good and the weather was perfect. Moonshadow is very well maintained and has always been a pleasant experience.

I do have one negative response however. There appears to be a new feature in the home that was not mentioned, explained or pointed out in any way. I don't remember the name of the device, but it's placed on the small table at the bottom of the spiral stairs. I looked it up online, and it appeared to be a device to regulate the home's temperature using solar. We were disappointed in there was no information regarding it and it's function.

"Thank you for noticing the upgrade. It is an Eero mesh signal extender to improve our Wifi signal downstairs and enable better reception outside at porch,deck, spa and garden. It is NOT an Alexa type device that listens to you or does anything else, and it is not part of the solar array system. We will add an explanation in our house instructions. We are three adults and small poodles who loved our four night stay at Moonshadow. The house is very personally appointed with lovely rugs, pillows and decorative items. It feels loved by it's owners. The view from all verandas is lovely and the whole property is protected by trees and the angle of exposure, so sitting on the veranda was always a pleasure. The only problem was the winding metal stairway which was a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. This was not clear from the online description. But we all managed. The dogs loved making the metal stairs ring. The house was clean and in very good condition. The walks easy and accessible. Bring all your own food as there is no storage of spices and condiments.Shopping on minutes away in Gualala.

This is a great upside down house with living on the top and bedrooms on the bottom. The actual footprint of the living space is small yet with just two of us (one in each BR) it felt just right. Very nice seating (couch chair and bench),and very comfortable bedding. Loved waking up with the sound of the waves and a view of the water.
Kitchen size is best as one at a time, which we easily worked out. It has filters, coffee maker and grinder, fantastic cutting boards, and spices to take you through most roasting and cooking.
The proximity to the bluff trail and Ohlson beach is great.

Moonshadow was magical. Blue jays and hummingbirds visited us several times a day, and the view of the enormous crashing waves was breathtaking. This is beautiful small house very close to the ocean, with two comfortable bedrooms and baths. The house and its gardens are well designed and cared for. Great house, we were there in the off season so so quiet, only the regular pair of deer in the meadow seemed to be our neighbors. Just right for my husband and I and our Boston terrier. Moonshadow was the perfect location for us: within sight of the sea, but not too close and loud. We enjoyed watching the deer graze from the balcony, walking down the trail in front of the house to see the harbour seals and gazing up at the starry sky every night from the saltwater hot tub. We also loved the floorplan of the house, which was perfect for 2 couples. The kitchen had an overabundance of pots and pans, many in poor condition. And doors and surfaces were a bit sticky and could use some cleaning and touch up. But I'm also a bit of a neat freak ;-) Would totally stay here again and highly recommend it!

Allows a pet (thanks). It has nice outdoor space and a semi-enclosed courtyard for a pet. If you bring a baby gate, you could feasibly close it off. Maybe check with rental manager on this option. Very cute little place. Lots of charm, very comfortable. Spiral stairs would be little rough if you didn't get around well, but my 90 year old father was able to navigate fine. This was a wonderfully cozy house, with an ideal location, close to trails and one of the recreation centers. We brought our dog, and she was able to navigate the spiral staircase with a little practice. Only recommendation: since this is an upside down shoe-free house, it would be great to have a few hooks for coats and a place to leave shoes indoors (it was raining!) by the front entrance.

We were on a major road trip around Western USA, meaning checking in and out of a lot of hotels. Therefore it was a bless to be in a real home for a couple of days. And what a charm it was!
The ocean view was amazing, location is fabulous, loads of wildlife...

We've rented many houses at Sea Ranch over 15 years and this is our new favorite. The location is great, with white water views, the sounds of the crashing waves (but not too loud!) and a short walk to the bluff. The decor is fascinating, charming and personal, unlike many rental homes that feel sterile or generic. The new salt water hot tub is great. We also found the beds super comfy. Yes, it's an older home and quite small and the kitchen gear shows some signs of wear. If you like things super-modern, luxe or sterile, this place is not for you. But if you want a warm, cozy place that feels like a real home, you will enjoy Moonshadow.

We had a lovely time at Moonshadow. The furnishings and decor are unique and charming - the house appears to be well loved by the owners! The kitchen is a pleasure to cook in (open plan, well supplied with cooking utensils), and the rooms both upstairs and downstairs have lovely views.

This house was very clean and cozy and a joy to stay in. The wood stove did an excellent job of heating the living area. Having the living area situated on the second floor afforded beautiful views and also a good measure of privacy. We had two days of extremely high seas and frequently walked to the bluffs to watch the breakers.

Perfect home for a small family with a dog. The house has an interesting layout that makes it feel more like a ship than a house. The location was great for walks on the bluff and watching deer in the meadow. You can see the ocean from the deck ( my daughter saw a whale one morning!), and this adds to the feeling of the house being ship-like, which is some of its magic & charm.

Moonshadow is peaceful and beautiful! The view of the ocean, paired with the sound of the ocean coming through the patio door, creates a peaceful atmosphere. Sea Ranch is our favorite place to relax. We love the quiet and unbelievably beautiful setting. Moonshadow matches the relaxing Sea Ranch atmosphere. While it is very rustic there is a wonderful sense of place there and it feels like a homey bird house! Every day we enjoyed the views from every room and enjoyed the sights and sounds of nature. The sea view is gorgeous from both decks and the proximity to walking trails and beaches was excellent.

My husband and I, along with our small dog, chose the Moonshadow for a five-night stay in late fall. The house is comfortable, well-equipped and lovely. It's filled with lots of beautiful wool rugs and decorative items from world travels, but doesn't appear cluttered or overdone. The bed and sofa are super-comfortable, and the hot tub at sunset is wonderful.

This was a wonderful weekend get away! Outstanding location to the bluff trail and a wonderful beach. Also very close to the pool and sauna. It had an interesting decor, but was a very comfortable home for the two of us to relax and enjoy the amazing ocean views from the patio. One really nice touch was that the railing lowered so you could enjoy the ocean views while soaking in the hot tub. Look forward to our next stay.

My husband and I enjoyed 4 nights at Moonshadow just before the winter holidays. Walking in for the first time, it just felt good, as if many happy memories had been made there. It was cozy reading by the woodstove and the location was great for long walks on the bluff trail. The salt water hot tub was a treat, too. Hot water, beautiful night sky, the sound of the surf . . . Hard to beat.

We found the house to be the perfect size for the two and really liked the layout. Upstairs: kitchen, living area and small deck (access via spiral stairs). Downstairs: 2 small bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, larger deck and hot tub.

Thanks to the owners for sharing what is clearly a well loved home. We hope to be back!

Once Moonshadow provided with a great escape from the daily grind. This is a gem on the coast that I’m sure we will enjoy many times I the future. Well designed and decorated home. The house is small and is ideally best for 1 couple but does have 2 bedrooms that could accommodate another couple or children. There is an inverted floor plan with bedrooms and bathrooms on the entry level with kitchen and living room up a winding metal staircase. Living room was very comfortable with great views and attached deck, ideal for morning coffee, lunch reading or just day dreaming. Wood burning stove worked well in heating upstairs in the evening but bring kindling as this is not provided and was not available in Gualala. Small kitchen was well stocked. Bedroom with very comfortable bed. Bathrooms function well. Heating controlled individually in each room worked efficiently. Hot tub was a treat each night.

I am sorry you feel the two working flashlights at Moonshadow were not sufficient. We cannot provide candles because of liability issues. Fortunately, the power was only out for the evening. Having to use the stairs between the living and dining on the 2nd floor and the bed and bath on the ground floor was a little difficult for an older couple. Other than that the house was very nice and well appointed.

This is the third or fourth time we have stayed in Moonshadow and enjoyed it every time. It's well located, with a good ocean view and miles of hiking trail north and south. The upstairs is a cosy place to read in bad weather. Downstairs was very cold. The house could use some attention: wall heater in one bathroom not working, dining table sticky to the touch, etc. But in general a wonderful place to relax.

Nice to stay in a rental that looks like someone actually lives there. This place has lots of personality that reflects well on the owner. For once, a really nicely stocked kitchen - everything you will need is there. The hot tub was preheated and the private garden was a big bonus. The only thing that doesn't work well is the internet and cable. Unless you watch ABC you won't be able to see anything. Fortunately I could use our AT&T unlimited data plan!

A beautiful restful home at Sea Ranch. We'd never been before and found the 2-story-small-sized house beautifully sited with a view of the water but shielded from the wind by hedgerow cypress trees.Very easy access to the trail. The decor was lovely and the decks offered lovely views and sun. Everything was in working order except a heater in small bathroom off of one bedroom. A quiet, wonderful stay!
